So, does anyone want to buy this option with their mac and I'll pay the $60 for both of them. Ok... $70 for your time and shipping. ;)

Well, lets see where would they put it? Between Mac Mini and iMac.... you know in that $200 difference. Or maybe between iMac and Pro Mac.... in that what $300 difference. It seems like the Mac Mini bump and iMac expansion have left no room in the line-up for another Mac. Even with conroes... all speeds, sizes, prices are covered. There isn't room for a Conroe Mac. Period.

Rubbish. There is a Jupiter sized gap in Apples product "matrix". They have no desktop for frig sake!

The article seems to imply that perhaps ATT has already agreed, hence why Apple is negotiating with Verizon at this point.

    Oh freakin' joy.

665Mb over AT&T's EDGE network here in Asshat, America will tie up every cell tower within 50 miles and take my iP4 days to update. No thanks - I'll disable it.

Anyone knows how the GeForce 7600 GT compares to the Radeon X1X00 series?
    Similar to the X1800 GT?

Must be better/faster than the X1600....

I believe the GeForce 7600 GT is on par with the X1800 GT, faster in some cases, slower in others. It's a pretty good graphics card. I would just like to see the GeForce 7600 GT bump out the 7300 GT on Mac Pro.

According to the Wikipedia article, a Home Basic upgrade is only $99.95, which is cheaper than the standard $129 for OS X releases. Then again, education customers can often get Mac OS for around $70 in some cases, if I'm not mistaken. I don't know if there will be education discounts for Vista or how much they will be. With so many versions and price points for Vista and an unknown price tag for Leopard, it's very complicated to make comparisons...

Now one of the big questions is, who can get a Home Basic upgrade and how much are Home Basic users missing out on if they get that as opposed to Aero, etc.? No one knows for sure all the details at this point and we won't know for sure until official announcements are made. Although I would take OS X over Windows any day, we have to be cautious I think before saying Mac's upgrades are cheaper than Windows'. It looks like in many cases they will be, but not necessarily in all cases.

I am a professional editor. I get paid to edit. I just don't edit giant films. I think there is a little discrediting going on for what makes a professional editor.
I was in a discussion a year ago about all the new features that just got released. In the days of yesteryear, editors (film wise) would cut the film, then once they had a locked picture, they would add audio, color the film, sound effects and score. Those days are long gone.
A year ago during a project, I found myself very angry at the way FCP was functioning given the way editors have to edit today. I have been a big FCP user for years and consider myself very experienced with the software. I refer to the editing style of today (which is also being done in feature film editorial) that you are no longer just the film/video editor. YOU ARE the sound designer, the colorist, the composer, and the technician, at least a basic level.
I feel that 10 years ago you would show a "rough" cut that was 50% done, no audio effects, color, or score, just the cuts and clients were able to get it. However, today I feel that a rough cut needs to look more like 95% done. Many times when I show a client a piece of footage that doesnt look like an almost finished product, they get concerned about the final piece, even when you explain that it is a rough cut.
So now that a lot of editors are having to show cuts that are almost done to get notes, the actual act of editing has become a nightmare to me. I have show basically a finished cut (sounds, scores, titles, overlays, graphics) and then when there is a change, I have to move all of the sounds, scores, titles, overlays, graphics out of the way to make the simplest edit. Half the time, something gets moved that isnt supposed to causing extra work. And I will be honest, sometimes, (which I know we all do....) I say "good enough," because the actual act of moving a giant timeline around is just too painful.
    Well not anymore! (hopefully)
I want the freedom that FCPX will hopefully provide.
And of course one final thought. A good editor is a good editor, it is an art. Just because someone is an "expert" on AVID, PP, FCP doesnt mean they are a good editor. Same as someone who knows how to put paint on canvas isn't necessarily Van Gogh.
I think this version will help us tell stories easily and more efficiently. It is still up to the editor what he/she will do with the tool.

Doesn't most of the internet use flash?

    Not on mobile devices...

I would not feel so strongly about this if Adobe could write a stable, fast, less vulnerable version of flash for the Mac.

However as of today Adobe has shown they could give a rats ass about Apple and Flash is proof. It is buggy, it crashes a lot, even with hardware acceleration it is still a cpu hog and it seems every time I turn around another security exploit has been found.

Apple please keep Flash off of your iOS products and keep moving forward with html5.

Last I checked this kind of anti-competitive action was illegal under monopoly laws...
They, for the most part, stopped enforcing those laws back in the Reagan years.

Digitalbiker just wrote," Apple and Wal-mart are just companies. They are not evil or benevolent."
True, but they are owned and run by people who can act evilly or benevolently; they are not disembodied spirits or forces of nature. The actions large corporations take can have very bad consequences for real people (not to mention animals, birds, the air, etc.). Corporate amorality is a pretty shabby, threadbare garment.

...and also from Digitalbiker (sorry, i don't mean to pick on you, i'm just commenting in general), "They compete in a very competitive market and can in no way be considered monopolies."
True, but only partly. Apple and Wal-mart do everything they can to limit competition. Besides, at the highest levels, these publicly owned companies are largely owned and run by a relative handful of people--the plutocracy. The idea of a truly free market at the corporate level is a myth.

While there's some positive link between Mac-usage and intellect, you shouldn't take that information as meaning that posting on a Mac Forum gets you any intellect points.

So far, you've added nothing but focusing on the messenger. Which is typical, if knowledge about the topic of discussion is superficial at best.

    For all to see.

Sleep tight under your Beatles blanket, son.

    Brilliant.

What do you want me to say that people haven't already voiced?

That The Beatles have received 7 Grammy Awards and 15 Ivor Novello Awards.

That they have been awarded 6 Diamond albums, as well as 24 Multi-Platinum albums, 39 Platinum albums and 45 Gold albums in the United States and in the UK they have 4 Multi-Platinum albums, 4 Platinum albums, 8 Gold albums and 1 Silver album?

The fact that you can just dismiss them is laughable but hey i don't want to upset you anymore than i have.

Oh and stop calling me son.

Excellent point Skunk and I agree completely. Believers should make it priority to read and understand all of God's word, but unfortunately, like anything in life, sometimes we avoid what we find difficult , what we don't understand, or what we don't enjoy.

The sad fact is that many people who profess to be followers of Jesus don't spend the amount of time in the Bible that they should. It's not just an old vs. new testament thing it's a reading and studying the Bible at all thing. I know I'm not telling you anything that you don't already know as we have discussed it before in other threads. Christians who don't understand of know their faith well sometimes do more harm than good by spreading misinformation. If they would actually deepen their relationship with God through consistent time in his word then they would be a better representation of the truth the scriptures lay out.

However, I should point out that faith is a growing process. The goal is that people will mature in their faith over time as they grow in knowledge of and relationship with the Lord. I am not discouraged by new believers who are just starting out on in their walk with Christ. It's the long time believers who have neglected God's word or chosen to adhere to tradition over revealed truth that frustrate me.But would they still be believers if they really read the Old Testament? The evidence within it for polytheism is rife. Worshipping Yahweh/Jehovah/El is like worshipping Zeus or Jupiter. And Satan is Baal (Beelzebub). Not many Zeus-worshippers around these days, though, are there?

This is not true. There is no specific assertion in the Old Testament of any triune nature of god.

I could type up a bunch of stuff, but this website (http://www.godandscience.org/apologetics/triunity.html) does a good job of covering all the bases regarding our difference of opinion on this matter. Here's two quick excerpts:

Jews say that the Shema (pronounced Shmah), "Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God is one Lord"1 contradicts the Christian doctrine that Jesus is God. In addition, there are a number of other verses that proclaim that God is one (see God is One). However, the triunity of God is taught throughout the Old Testament, including the Shema! How can a statement of oneness imply plurality? The word translated "one" from the Hebrew is echad, which demonstrates compound unity of oneness.

    and

Some of the verses above include all members of the triunity (Isaiah 42:1, Isaiah 48:16, and Isaiah 61:1). Therefore, the Old Testament does reveal the Christian concept of the Godhead, with God being one God, consisting of three persons.

Remember what I said in the beginning. Complete understanding of the old testament comes through knowledge gained by the revelation of the new testament. They really can't be separated in terms of understanding the whole of God's message and work throughout history. Additionally, for the average person (who cannot read Hebrew and is not familiar with Jewish history and doctrine) it could be difficult to see the trinity in the old testament. That's why I suggest to people that they invest in a study Bible, possibly a Bible Encyclopedia, and some commentaries. These additional tools can help bring out the contextual clues provided by the original languages, the historical context, and the skill of cross referencing within the Bible.

Of course not any interpretation is valid; however, the Bible is very complex and contradicts itself in places. There is no set interpretation that can said to be right, rather a spectrum that can be justified. "Clear" is not a word I would use.

Again, we'll just have to agree to disagree. The Bible does not contradict itself in it's overall message of God's revelation of himself and plan for restoring the relationship with man that was destroyed by sin. Sure there are differences of application and interpretation regarding secondary matters (food laws, sexuality, alcohol, etc. etc.) and that is why we have different denominations within the Christian faith. However, the primary matter of who God is, how he dealt with the problem of sin, and how he we are to treat one another is clear and without contradiction. That is why I feel confident in telling you that Westboro is "off the mark" because they are not following Christ's example with how they treat their fellow man and how they represent God to others.

I realize that, to you, what I'm about to say might be viewed as an issue of semantics or "word manipulation", but to a genuine follower of Christ there is no such thing as "my interpretation". I believe what God says in his word and if I am confused about something I look to other parts of scripture to help me get at the correct interpretation of what is confusing me. You see it doesn't matter what I think or what I wish it would say, I come to the Bible with no preconceived notions and let it stand on it's own.

This is obviously where we part ways. For me the Bible is the product of man. Nothing more.

I understand. In most, if not all, of these discussions the eventual impasse that arises is centered on the issue of faith. Some choose to believe, some don't. Some are open to putting God to the test, some are not.

Cutting NPR and Union collective bargaining rights are not going to solve our fiscal mess.

I laugh at this topic...because it's been yapped about for weeks..."just cut NPR and we'll save $40 million!" Wow...$40mill out of trillions. Yeah, great concept. Why don't we cut out public museums, libraries, and parks while we're at it.

I actually listen to NPR...basically because it's on the classical station I tune into. NPR may be a bit on the Democrat side, but overall I find the stories are at least real news...while offering both sides of the argument.

I happen to work for a vendor that supplies Walmart.. I believe this story to be true.. Walmart breaks the antitrust laws everyday.. and get away with it since they bribe and payoff key people in the goverment.(They call it contributions)

I know a vendor(He owned the company) who supplied Walmart with quality vacuums and vacuum accessories.. Walmart decided that they wanted a better price for his vacuums and so they demanded that he cut the price of his vacuums by 30% and that he downgrades the build quality(They had a 10 year guarantee) so they would break down more often thus forcing people to buy more vacuums.

He was in the 4th year of a 10 year contract where it stipulated that HE decided the pricing and everything.. So he refused to lower the price of the vacuums since he would ACTUALLY LOSE MONEY if he sold them at the price Walmart wanted.. Walmart tore up his contract and kicked him out of the store.. when he threatened to sue them for breach of contract they laughed and told him to do it.. it would end up costing him millions to successfully sue Walmart and he would lose money if he attempted that.

How about, "we want to invest in the US!"

    Sheeeez!

There should be a law that states anytime a US company chooses to manufacture something outside the US, the company must post a clearly-articulated-less-than-25-page document stating AND COMPARING why the US is unable to manufacture said product.

lol.. I seem to get the feeling that you are an anti-outsourcing person. I hope everything you buy in your life is made in the good ol USA. =) <-- I may be wrong. Feel free to correct me.

it's a bit too expensive for companies on the scale of Apple to mass produce in America. Plus, there are so many laws and regulations sanctioned by our great Congress to protect certain industries and whatnot, equating to greater barriers to import inputs for their electronics. This may mean that Apple products might be more expensive than it is now.

Also, American labor unions, in my opinion, can be very disruptive for production. If Apple is struggling to keep up production now, imagine if "the Apple Labor Union for Workers" decided to go on strike for whatever "menial" reason.

Sorry, but the US is no longer comparatively advantageous for labor.

    Games.

The vast majority of their sales are to less-technology/gadget-savvy users who have bought their Mac because of other people telling them that Macs are good, rather than the hardware, specs, or software on the computer.

In the end, it is all marketing... which is the case with most of Apple's products.

They have been selling PC hardware now for years at a higher price than their competitors.

Windows 7 isn't any worse (or better) than MacOS for browsing the web or checking email.....

so its not the OS that is influencing soccer moms and emo kids to buy Mac either.

It is the 'cool' factor, IMO

I like your 'games' point but not so sure about your other claims.
Did you mean that Windows buyers ARE more techno-savvy?
Or that Techno-Savvy types tend to avoid Macs?

    Higher Prices for Better Machines.
Fantastic designs are not cheap. And Apple never skimps on Components
Quality Windows PCs cost about the Same as Macs but don't have iLife.

You think a Mom or kid wouldn't think the Mac OS is more attractive and easier to use?

You say "People telling them Macs are good" but are not clear why they do tell them that. Are Macs really good or is "All marketing"?

    'Cool'
What does that mean? Is it just another word for 'Trendy'?
How did Macs get to be cool or trendy?
I always defined cool as 'being comfortable being yourself'

Finally, why does every switcher I meet have the same expression on their face. They all look relieved, like we have just pulled them into the life boat.

Cool may get you to buy something but it can't make you LOVE something.
So why do Mac users LOVE their machines so much?
If you own one I don't really have to explain.
